Did you ditch meat to take part in Veganuary? Or are you already vegan?
Nearly half the campus is: when we conducted a survey into the eating habits of our campus community at the end of 2022, around 13% respondents said they were vegan, with a further 27% vegetarian and 7% pescetarian.
We also know that meat eaters were keen to see more plant-based options: a third told us they would be very interested in reducing the amount of meat in their diet.
It’s clear that there’s an appetite for the healthy food at the Veg Bowl @ Dhaba – its new look last term helped to increase sales by more than a third compared to the previous year.
The Veg Bowl @ Dhaba offers a build-your-own lunch menu where you can customise a base of either noodle broth, poke bowl, leafy salad or banh mi with the protein or veg of your choice: choose from mushroom, tofu, egg and aubergine then pile on the toppings, including green veg grown on the hydroponics wall just metres away!
They also have monthly pop-ups such as Diwali specials, sticking with the build-your-own theme.
Feedback from students has included: “I have found it really hard to find healthy, veggie, affordable food on campus so this is a gem”
“The cafe is cosy, organised and I like to stay there for studying at the same time I have my lunch”
“I thought the food had a really good range of options, especially as someone with lots of intolerances I had loads to choose from”
“A heartwarming bowl of goodness is the way I can describe it”
