Campus life

For those of you that spent the winter vacation elsewhere, returning to campus was much anticipated. January is an opportunity to reconnect with friends and even make some new ones. It’s also a great time for trips into Brighton and the local area, especially whilst there’s relatively few day-trippers!

Getting your study on

We know the assessment period can be hard work, but it was great to hear many of you are looking forward to getting stuck into your studies this year. Whether it’s hunkering down in your favourite library study spot or getting expert insights from your lecturers, one thing is for certain – 2024 will be a great year of learning here at Sussex.

Daydreaming about summer

We don’t blame those of you who are already daydreaming of summertime at the beach. Sun, surf and seagulls are central to the Brighton experience. But it’s worth getting out and about during the winter months too. A brisk walk in the South Downs is an excellent way to clear your mind.

Big ticket events

Are you looking forward to a particular event this year? Whether you’ll be joining the HackSussex Hackathon, or catching a gig with the Sussex Live Music Society, there's plenty to get excited about. Find out about upcoming events on campus on the Student Hub or check out what’s on at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA).

Graduations and new beginnings

It was lovely to hear from those of you that are excited about graduating this month or later in the year, and from others that will be coming to Sussex to study in 2024. For some of you it may well be both. You can find out more about continuing your studies here at Sussex on the Student Hub.

More in hope than expectation

Finally, a couple of your responses were perhaps shared more in hope than in expectation. I’m sure we’re all looking forward to our flatmates cleaning the kitchen this year! And will 2024 be the year we avoid seagulls stealing our lunch? At least we have George the Hawk here on campus to help with the latter.
