The University of Sussex has been confirmed as an apprenticeship provider to other employers following a long period of planning, registration and networking. This is a brand new initiative for Sussex and separate from the organisational development apprenticeships currently offered to our own staff.
Our formal launch campaign and event will start in February 2024 to coincide with National Apprenticeships Week. Programmes begin in September, when we will welcome our first cohort onto two Masters’ level degree apprenticeships - one in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and one in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. We will also offer an undergraduate degree apprenticeship programme in Business Analytics and Digital Technology (title TBC).
Professor Ian Wakeman, Head of the School of Engineering and Informatics, said: “We’re creating apprenticeships tailored to the needs of local, regional, and national employers. Our apprenticeship team has been reaching out to them to make the curriculum as current as possible, co-creating content and delivery design. It’s an exciting portfolio as it plays to our strengths – research driven innovation and industry expert teaching.”
The School of Engineering and Informatics and the Business School are the first at Sussex to offer degree apprenticeships. The intention is for additional subjects to be offered as we build our portfolio.
This means local business and industry can send employees to train and upskill at the University and work towards a degree apprenticeship that is relevant to their work.
Along with the University of Brighton, Sussex is a higher education partner of the Sussex & Surrey Institute of Technology which is supporting the University through the apprenticeship confirmation process.
