University staff were honoured at the Brighton & Hove Apprenticeship Graduation 2023 ceremony recently, including Joanna Dale who won the Outstanding Contribution by an Apprentice to an Employer Award.
Over fifty apprentice graduands from more than twenty-five employers across Brighton and Hove came together at the Metropole Hotel in Brighton on Tuesday 7 November to celebrate their success and mark the end of their apprenticeship journeys. The event was hosted by the Sussex Council of Training Providers, University of Brighton, Brighton and Hove City Council, and with the support of a number of training providers.
One of the highlights of the evening was the special awards and huge congratulations go to Joanna Dale, Student Advisor here at Sussex who won the ‘Outstanding Contribution by an Apprentice to an Employer Award’.
The graduates spanned a wide variety of occupations and industries, such as information technology, teaching, accounting taxation, digital marketing, nursing, hospitality and administration. They completed their apprenticeship programs through a mix of on-the-job training in the workplace and online webinars, earning nationally-recognised qualifications as well as crucial skills and knowledge for the future. Our Sussex graduates achieved apprenticeships in coaching, operational management, commercial procurement and supply, and senior leadership.
The event featured distinguished speakers and guests including Bella Sankey, Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, Professor Debra Humphris, Vice Chancellor University of Brighton & Hove, and Jackie O’Quinn, Mayor of Brighton & Hove. Speakers all praised the graduates for their efforts, commitment and accomplishments, and urged them to continue their career development and lifelong learning.
The ceremony was a memorable occasion for the graduates, their families, friends, employers, mentors, demonstrating the power and potential of apprenticeships as a pathway to success for workers and employers alike. We will be catching up with many of our apprentices over the next few months to hear how an apprenticeship has benefitted them and opened up new possibilities in their career.
