Sussex University is the official educational partner for the 2023 Turner Prize, which is being hosted at Towner Eastbourne from September 2023-April 2024. Awarded each year to a British artist for an outstanding presentation of their work, The Turner Prize is among the most important awards for contemporary art in the world.
This has created an exciting opportunity for Sussex students to become involved with an ambitious public programme developed around the Prize. We are looking for a pool of around fifty student volunteers to take part in delivering TurnerPrize workshops for Year 9 school pupils between October and February 2024.
You will play a key role in welcoming hundreds of young people to Towner, engaging them with the TurnerPrize exhibition, and undertaking innovative forms of evaluation to gauge thoughts and feelings.
This is not your typical volunteering opportunity! It is a real chance to gain professional experience working within the gallery sector.
You will receive training from members of Towner’s Learning team and have opportunities to learn first-hand about how galleries and museums engage with local audiences. You will also get to spend time in and around work by leading contemporary artists, interacting with artists in the gallery, and gain knowledge and confidence talking about art.
You will be expected to:
-
Attend a four-hour training session on Wednesday 25 October, 1pm – 5pm.
-
Work at least 3 full days delivering workshops. All workshops will be delivered on Mondays until mid-February.
If you would like to apply to become a Turner Prize Volunteer and attend the October training session then please complete the online form by Wednesday18 October: https://forms.office.com/e/PRDCLLFvjv. This will request a few personal details along with a 100-200-word statement about why you would like to be involved.
