From Nobel Prize winners to our sustainability credentials, there’s plenty to shout about at Sussex. We took to Instagram to ask what makes you proud to study here?
Our education and research
One unsurprising theme in your replies was your pride in the quality of education and research at Sussex. Whether it's being ranked first in the world for Development Studies or the brilliance of individual lecturers, Sussex students appreciate the academic excellence they encounter here.
Our green campus
Sussex's green credentials and beautiful campus also got mentions. The University’s commitment to sustainability saw us win a Green Flag Award for the seventh year in a row in 2023 and we recently committed to handing over 42 per cent of our 80-hectare campus to nature. Now that really is something to be proud of.
Our community
Many of you are proud of the deep sense of community shared by Sussex students. Our diversity and respect for one another, regardless of background or culture, is clearly something you value. The Spirit of Sussex Award was also mentioned, an excellent way of getting more involved your community and making the most out of your University experience.
Our alumni
The final theme to emerge was our brilliant alumni. From Nobel laureates to leading politicians around the world, from popular comedians like Frankie Boyle and Sara Pascoe to award-winning writers like Ian McEwan, many illustrious alumni have walked these halls. Their accomplishments remind us that the Sussex experience is a launchpad for what comes next and we can’t wait to see what you, our current cohort of students, will go on to achieve.
As a student, you can network with your fantastic alumni community around the globe through Sussex Connect.
