The Spirit of Sussex Award is an award scheme at the University of Sussex that rewards you for your involvement in co-curricular activities during your time as a student.

The award is available for all undergraduate, postgraduate, Brighton & Sussex Medical School (BSMS) and Institute of Development Studies (IDS) students. The award allows you to get involved in life at Sussex, make new friends and connections, enhance your experiences and earn a university-accredited certificate when you graduate!

The Spirit of Sussex Award is a points-based system that allows you to earn points for a wide range of activities. So whatever it is you are passionate about, there is a Spirit of Sussex category for you!

Here’s how it works:

• For attending and participating you will earn 5 points
• For organising and supporting you will earn 10 points
• For leading and representing you will earn 15 points.

You can earn points through engaging in co-curricular activities at Sussex. Whether it’s attending a careers fair, having a part-time job or volunteering, helping to organise an event or leading a society, there are so many ways to get involved!

At the end of your degree, the points you log via the Spirit of Sussex platform or app will add up to earn you a university-accredited certificate.

• 25 points will earn you a Bronze award
• 50 points will earn you a Silver award
• 75 points will earn you a Gold award.

Ways to get started

To get started, log into the Spirit of Sussex Award platform or app using your Sussex email and password. If you are looking to log your first 5 points, here are some great ways to get started.

• Log 5 points for completing 5 activities on the interactive induction checklist
• Log 5 points for attending welcome events and sessions
• Automatically earn 5 points for completing the Skills & Strengths Review
