Dear Colleague,
Earlier this year, HESA (the Higher Education Statistics Agency) announced changes to the data categories it collects from the University.
We have recently updated the categories on the HR system, MyView, to reflect these changes. In order to ensure the data we collect is accurate, staff will need to update their equalities data responses in the MyView system.
All staff, including new starters, are encouraged to complete and update their equalities data responses on MyView by Wednesday 27 September 2023.
Collecting equalities data helps us to monitor diversity at Sussex, providing evidence to inform and support driving action to improve policies, practices and initiatives.
How do I update my equalities data?
You can review and update your equalities data by logging into MyView:
- Log into MyView using the same login details as your University email account
- Select the ‘My Personal Details’ tab
- Then select the ‘My Equality Data’ tab
- Fill in the information and select ‘Submit’ at the end of the page.
Please update your equalities data by Wednesday 27 September. We also ask that you take this opportunity to ensure your personal details are up to date on MyView.
What data do we collect on MyView?
As well as personal information such as your name and address for correspondence reasons, equalities data is collected through MyView. This includes ethnicity, gender and disability as well as data relating to other personal characteristics.
Your equalities data is confidential and processed/reported on in line with our data policies. We provide the data to HESA as part of our reporting obligations but otherwise, equalities data is only available as aggregated data for reporting purposes.
If you have any questions about how your personal data is used, please contact the University's Data Protection Officer.
Kind regards,
Colin Shipp
Director of HR
