Keith Jones, Interim Provost and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), wrote to all academic staff on 18 August. You can read the full text of his email below.
Dear Colleague,
As you may have heard, the University has been engaged on a project to refresh and review the academic promotions framework. An important aspect of this project is to consider whether the titles currently in use (e.g. Senior Lecturer, Reader) still maintain the recognition (both domestically and internationally) they once did.
Before any further steps are taken, we are keen to hear the views of our academic community and, to that end, four online events will be held on 14 and 15 September to gather the views of our community regarding the proposed titles. Following these meetings, a paper will go to Senate, who will be asked to approve the recommended changes, which will depend on your feedback.
The events will be online only, as we want as many people to be able to attend as possible. Please sign up to the appropriate meeting below:
- Academic Titles Modernisation Feedback Session – MAH
- Academic Titles Modernisation Feedback Session – Science
- Academic Titles Modernisation Feedback Session – Social Science
- Academic Titles Modernisation Feedback Session – Business School and LPS
In the interests of openness, you can view further details on the proposals (login required: network username e.g. ABC123, password). Please read this as it contains some important information, but to be clear at this stage the focus of the events will be on the academic titles. Further consultation on the other aspects contained within the paper will happen in due course.
Please take the time to attend the online events. If you are unable to attend we would still welcome your feedback based on the information in the paper, so please send such feedback to reward@sussex.ac.uk.
Regards,
Keith Jones
Interim Provost and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise)
