University launches Sustainable Sussex Car Benefit scheme
Posted on behalf of: Internal Communications
Last updated: Monday, 31 July 2023
From today, 31 July, eligible University staff will be able to offset some of their salary before tax in exchange for a new electric or plug-in hybrid car provided by Tusker.
The Sustainable Sussex Car Benefit scheme allows you to choose a car from all leading manufacturers and includes fully comprehensive motor insurance, servicing, routine maintenance and repairs, home charging point with standard installation, breakdown cover and MOTs - and there’s no deposit.
Chief Operating Officer, Tim Westlake, said: “As we work towards becoming one of the most sustainable universities in the world it is critical to find ways to support staff in lowering their carbon footprint associated with commuting to work. The University already provides opportunities to support those who commute by bike or public transport, and I am delighted that we are now launching a sustainable car benefit scheme. My hope is that colleagues looking for a more sustainable way to commute to work will find the scheme a really attractive option.”
Access the scheme today
Visit the Tusker site to create an account, using your employee number (found on your payslip) and our company code TUOS.
Once you log in, you’ll be able to see the range of cars provided and get a quote. Electric cars from all leading manufacturers are available in styles ranging from the supermini to large SUVs.
Most electric cars can travel 200-300 miles between charges, and there are more charging points regularly being installed across the southeast. We have nine on campus, and more planned as part of the West Slope development. You could also be eligible to have one installed at home through the scheme. So, take a look at what’s on offer and consider a fossil free drive to work.
If you create an account and log in before 31 September 2023, you’ll automatically be entered into a competition for the chance to win a £200 One4All high street shopping card.
If you need help with the site, or you want to chat to Tusker about ordering a car, you can get in contact by phone: 0333 400 7431 or email: EETeam@tuskerdirect.com
Are you eligible?
Permanent employees with over three months’ service are eligible for the car scheme. If the monthly cost of the car would cause an employee to drop below the National Minimum Wage and Living Wage, the application will be rejected. Find out more at our 9 August webinar
Tusker are often asked about how the scheme works, particularly around tax and National Insurance deductions, so they’ve put together a short webinar so you can find out more. The webinar will be held on Wednesday 9 August from 11:30am until 12:30pm, and a recording made available afterwards. Sign up now.
