The British Academy has welcomed a new group of leading international humanities and social sciences researchers to its Fellowship for 2023, including Sussex’s Professor Susie Scott.
Professor Scott has joined a community of over 1,600 distinguished intellectuals, becoming part of the UK’s national academy for the humanities and social sciences. Susie’s research specialises in the micro-sociological perspectives of symbolic interactionism and Goffman’s dramaturgy. She applies this theory to questions of self-identity, social interaction and everyday life, using interviews, narrative and life-story methods.
Last year Susie was conferred the Award of Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, and you can read more about her research and publications in last year’s story.
Susie said: “I am delighted to have been elected as a Fellow of the British Academy, and deeply honoured by this recognition of my work. I hope that my research into innovative and original topics continues to engage audiences and contributes to the excellent research culture at Sussex.”
Jo Moran-Ellis, Head of the School of Law, Politics and Sociology (LPS), said: “The British Academy is critical to investing in research and bringing people together across the humanities and social sciences. As a Fellow, Susie will be at the centre of this and she will bring her deep experience and understanding of social interaction to help address some of humanity’s most complex challenges. We in LPS are very proud of Susie’s achievement.”
