Allan Spencer is stepping down from his role as Director of Finance for the University at the start of 2024. Allan joined Sussex in 2005 and has led the Finance Division throughout his 18 years here. He will remain in the role until early 2024 to allow time for the recruitment of, and transition to, his successor.
Fortunately, Allan will not be leaving the University at the start of 2024, as he will move to a new part-time Executive Director role, leading on the major projects for which he is currently responsible. These are West Slope, Sustainability, and, as University Project Executive, the Network Replacement Project.
Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sasha Roseneil said: “I want to thank Allan for his outstanding service over many years, some of them very difficult indeed for the Higher Education sector. Allan’s financial stewardship of Sussex has been outstanding, and I am very grateful to him and the excellent team he leads.
“I am delighted that Allan will continue his work on three mission-critical projects, and that he will stay in his current role until early 2024 so that we can ensure a seamless transition to the appointment of his successor.
“We will miss Allan’s financial leadership enormously, but we can most definitely build on the solid foundations he has laid at Sussex over nearly two decades.”
Allan Spencer said: “It has been a privilege to lead the University’s finances since 2005 and to support the growth and success of the University. I have been fortunate to have worked with many senior staff who have worked together to take Sussex forward. The support and dedication of the Finance Division have been crucial to my role. I am grateful to the many colleagues who have contributed so much.
"My successor will join a great Executive team at an exciting time as the University develops its next strategy. I look forward to completing some critical projects for the University before I leave: seeking to close the deal on the West Slope residences project, developing specific plans for our Net Zero commitments and supporting the upgrade of the campus IT network.”
