The Health and Safety Office is looking to recruit 2-3 committed individuals to become part of the University Medical Emergency Response Team (ERT). The ERT is comprised of voluntary members of staff who play a vital role in assisting the University by attending emergency First Aid callouts across campus during working hours.
The ERT is currently a dedicated team of eight, looking to expand its number, to provide support to staff and students in the event of a medical emergency whilst on campus. Training will be provided (First Aid at Work) and you will receive a radio, full kit and access to drive the team’s Emergency vehicle.
The team currently operates a Primary Watch/Buddy system and there is minimum requirement of two days spent on campus in order to apply.
In the event a medical emergency, you will be called by the Security Office via radio and you should generally be able to leave at very short notice to attend an emergency. In addition to full training, you will receive a small annual First Aider allowance and an extra day's annual leave (after one year's service). If you are interested in applying for this role, please first seek approval from your Line Manager. Subsequently, or if you would like more information, please contact Steve Eastty (s.eastty@sussex.ac.uk) or Jo Rogers (j.rogers@sussex.ac.uk).
