Mental Health Awareness Week

This week (15-21 May) is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme for 2023 is anxiety.
Anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems in the UK, with an estimated 1 in 3 adults experiencing anxiety to the point of not being able to do things they wanted to.
While many of us will experience some form of anxiety from time to time, sometimes anxiety can get out of control and start to have a greater impact.
Lots of things can lead to these feelings, including exam pressures, relationships or other big life events like bereavement or moving house.
It is hoped that, by focusing on anxiety for this year's Mental Health Awareness Week and providing information and support, people's awareness and understanding of anxiety will increase.
There are lots of things that can make anxiety easier to manage. These things will differ from person to person but there is lots of support available at University of Sussex including:
- Short-term counselling
- Group workshops
- Peer support opportunities
- Regular wellbeing events across campus.
For more information you can see pages on the Student Hub about looking after your mental health and what the therapeutic services team offer.
