If you’re looking to expand your skills, boost your employment prospects or simply study a subject you love in more detail, a Masters degree could be the perfect next step.
A Masters degree at Sussex can give you plenty of options and be an excellent way to invest in your own future. As with any investment, it’s important to make sure it’s right for you.
To help you find out what Masters courses involve, how they are taught, what the career prospects are like, and how to apply for and fund your studies, we’ve compiled a list of events, resources and guides:
1. Join us online during Masters Week
If you have any questions on the types of Masters courses available and what they involve, the
application process, scholarships and Masters loans, book your place on our series of short
online sessions taking place during Masters Week from Monday 5 June.
You’ll be able to speak to an expert in the Postgraduate Team and ask questions to a current Masters student at Sussex about the different subject you’ve registered to hear more about. Find out more and book your place.
2. Speak to current Masters students
Another great option is to speak to current Masters students via Unibuddy or an online Postgraduate student Q&A to hear their experiences of postgraduate study and to ask any questions you may have about what life as a Masters student is really like.
3. Attend a Masters and PhD campus session
Join our Postgraduate Team as well as current Masters students online or on campus for a Masters and PhD Information Session. These events involve a presentation introducing postgraduate study and cover the types of courses available, tips on the application process, and how to fund your studies.
4. Look into funding options
Studying a Masters can be a great investment in your longer-term earning potential, but how to fund studies in the short term is a common concern. Luckily there are some great resources out there to help people find out the funding options out there.
Our funding database is a great place to start as it lists all our Masters Scholarships including the Sussex Graduate Scholarship and the Sussex Alumni Award. Many students also fund their studies through Masters Loans and working while studying, and it’s also worth checking out the Alternative Guide to Funding.
5. Explore all of your options
Take a look at our campus and online Masters courses on our prospectus pages and our tips on applying for Masters courses and writing a successful personal statement. A number of Masters level courses allow you to move into a different subject area from the one you studied at undergraduate level, so it’s worth checking the entry requirements as you may find you have more options than you thought.
Also, make the most of resources such as FindAMasters and Prospects to find funding and compare Masters degrees from all over the world.
