Earlier this month the Business School hosted its annual Global Fair, celebrating the diverse and unique cultures within our university.
The School welcomed a range of international stalls run by student societies representing different places around the globe including Jamaica, Nigeria, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, China, Latin America and the Nordic region.
In addition to this, funds were raised for the Oxfam DEC Turkey & Syria Earthquake Appeal through a ‘Guess the Amount’ sweet-jar competition, and Amnesty International through a £1 book sale, run by student ambassadors and staff.
There were talented performances from Business School student Laura Camila Gravini Rodríguez, professional Kazakh singer Zhansultan Nurmukhanov, dancers from the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) as well as local Flamenco dancer and guitarist duo María Gómez and Alberto Quijorna.
Guests enjoyed food from local business’ Mama Bubble’s Kitchen, a West African/British fusion caterer from Brighton, and Kabak, a Middle Eastern street-food company based in Lewes.
Sophie Dickenson Bampton, a student ambassador who worked at the Global Fair said:
“There was a great atmosphere and turnout for the event. It was amazing to be involved and experience different cultures and foods from around the world. I’d recommend everyone looks out for this event next year!”
The Global Fair was held on 15 March as part of One World Sussex, which takes place in Spring term every year. Run by the Students’ Union, One World Week promotes cultural understanding as well as global issues at Sussex.
