National Student Money Week 2023 (NSMW) runs from 27 February to 3 March. As the cost-of-living crisis has put even more strain on everyone’s budgets, this year’s theme is ‘Navigate the Numbers: Coping with the cost of living.’
Our Advice and Guidance Team will be running a stall in the Student Centre atrium on Tuesday 28 February, Wednesday 1 March and Thursday 2 March with tips around budgeting and managing your money. There will also be a limited number of freebies available, while stocks last!
Our partners Blackbullion will be running a competition in conjunction with NSMW with a prize of one months’ rent on offer.
Check out our top tips to help you manage your money:
1. Register with Blackbullion

2. Be smart in the supermarket
Money Saving Experts say you can save 30% by downshifting your shopping over 1 year. Take the downshift challenge.
3. Plan your meals
There are lots of helpful websites with tasty recipes on a budget like BBC good food and Save the Student. Use a meal plan template (or see an example) to organise your food shop and recipes each week.
4. Keep current with changes
Things are changing fast, which could mean you may become eligible for extra support throughout the year. Check out the money helper for national updates and the Student Hub for University updates.
5. Don’t wait to ask for help!
Make an appointment with a Student Money Advisor. If you are concerned about your finances, you can talk things through and get advice on what support is available.
