The Belong at Sussex team wishes everyone a happy new year and hopes that the winter break was restful while also getting time to prepare for assessments.
Belong at Sussex is a programme within the Student Engagement and Enhancement team, aiming to bring a sense of belonging to students through year-round activities.
We had a fulfilling first semester with events such as an introduction to British Sign Language, the Belong at Sussex Film Screenings and the Winter Social at the Meeting House. The team also put together packages that were available to students staying on campus over the winter break.
There will be a range of events and activities to take part in over the coming semester too. Make sure to join the Belong at Sussex Canvas module to stay up to date!
Remember you can log 5 Spirit of Sussex Award points for participating in Belong at Sussex activities.
What’s on in January
We know it is a busy time of year and so we have only scheduled a few activities for after the assessment period.
Community kitchen workshop
Belong at Sussex is hosting its first Community kitchen workshop on Wednesday 18 January (1pm to 4pm). Ticket sales have expired for this event, but if you would like to be on the waiting list or express interest in future Community Kitchen workshops, please do let us know by emailing SEE@sussex.ac.uk.
Belong at Sussex film screening
On Friday 27 January the Belong at Sussex team will commemorate the Holocaust with a film screening of ‘The Book Thief’. This film is an adaptation of the novel by Marcus Zusak and chronicles the adventures of Liesel Meminger in Nazi Germany during World War II.
We will also be exhibiting a short film on the Porrajmos – the persecution of Roma and Sinti people, as well as information on the Holocaust and the groups of people targeted by the Nazi regime.
