Last week Dr Madina Tash, Director of Bloomberg Financial Markets Lab at the Business School, organized an employability session with Bloomberg LP for final year students.
Bloomberg provides financial software tools and enterprise applications such as analytics and equity trading platform, data services, and news to financial companies and organisations through the Bloomberg Terminal, its core revenue-generating product.
The Business School has its own Bloomberg Financial Markets Lab, giving students fantastic access to these resources and allowing them to develop the key practical skills often expected by employers in the world of finance.
Mark Ellings, Enterprise Account Executive and Florence Yardley-Rees, EMEA Early Careers Recruiter at Bloomberg discussed graduate and intern opportunities starting with an overview of the history of Bloomberg, including their heavy focus on sustainability and then led an interactive session with the Bloomberg terminal using a simulator. Students were asked to buy and sell stock, and were shown how to analyse the data this produced.
Florence gave insight into Bloomberg’s recruitment process, giving tips on interview techniques and advising students how to write an eye-catching CV.
She added : “The most important thing is motivation, an interest in financial services and a desire to work for Bloomberg”
This was a unique opportunity for current students to gain real insight into Bloomberg, whilst also showcasing the School's invaluable Bloomberg Financial Markets Lab.
