The Societies Committee has voted Roots (Communal Gardening) Society and South Asian Student Society (SASS) joint society of the month for October!
Both societies have achieved much this past month, with the move of the student garden to the new Roots site now completed and the very successful Diwali celebration organised by SASS.
A member of Roots, Robbie Hoar, describes the success of the Roots move: “This week the old Roots site has been officially handed over to Balfour Beatty. Many group sessions have been dedicated to rescuing plants and materials from the old Roots site. Alongside this very busy time, Sussex Roots has still managed to grow food and provide a safe space on campus for students and wildlife to enjoy.”
Diwali is one of the biggest events SASS organises throughout the year. The celebration incorporated vocal and dancing performances alongside a traditional dinner. A Bollywood after-party was hosted after the event, and it all brought so many students together in celebration!
Roots Society is one of our community and sustainability societies that empower students to grow food and plants, all while connecting with friends and making new connections. Read more about the student garden moving to Northfield.
SASS is one of our culture and language societies that represent and bring together students while celebrating vibrant cultures from South Asia.
