The event brought together safety experts from our local community, with students and staff offered advice on how to keep themselves and each other safe.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) joined our campus event providing a dramatic demonstration of how not to cook, and the consequences of trying to put out a fire in the kitchen with water. They were supported by their Community Safety team giving advice on general fire safety and their Business Safety team, providing advice on private sector housing. As a result of our event, a number of enquiries will be followed up by ESFRS in relation to community safety and private sector housing provision.
Brighton and Hove City Council's Road Safety team also joined us for the day, providing great information in relation to road safety, and specifically cycling. There was great interaction throughout the day from students who are new to the area and were provided details about where to cycle safely in the local area.
Sussex Police, supported by the Pagoda Security team, offered advice on night-time safety within the city. There was lots of discussions with students in relation to how to keep safe at night and the people employed within the city who are there to look after visitors.
