We are pleased to report that Sussex has been awarded with a Green Flag Award for the sixth year in a row.
Robert Hutton, the University’s Director of Estates and Commercial Services, says: “Sussex’s commitment to the excellent management of our estate has once again been recognised with this important award.
“To achieve the Award our team has to demonstrate excellent management of our green and open spaces and show that our spaces meet the needs of our community.
“I am proud of the work that our SEF and Estates team colleagues put in to ensuring that our campus stays true to its environment, and reflects the beauty of the South Downs, a space which we are truly privileged to occupy.”

Our vision for our campus
We published a new and ambitious Sustainability Strategy in June 2021, which focuses on a wide range of environmental, economic, and social aspects of sustainability across our University.
By planting native species of plants, creating water habitats and avoiding the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers where possible, we can strive to produce an annual net gain in biodiversity on campus each year - setting aside a certain percentage of the land on campus to nature.
