Appraisals
A reminder that it’s time to think about appraisals. Appraisals for PS staff should be completed by the end of September 2022 and Academic appraisals no later than 30 October.
Our web page is here to help, whether you are new to appraisals or you have plenty of experience and would like to refresh your knowledge and skills. You will find resources and support, as well as answers to frequently asked questions. But if you need further advice, please get in touch with us at od@sussex.ac.uk.
We have collated a range of online courses, podcasts and reflective tools to help you prepare for your appraisal. You can access the content on Linked In Learning here. We also have some tips here to help individuals think about career development and you might find our ‘planning your development’ pages useful.
As an appraiser, it’s important to take an interest in your appraisee’s career goals. Encourage them to think about how they can achieve those goals and think about what you can do to support them.
An apprenticeship is a fantastic way to help your staff realise their long-term career goals and develop skills and knowledge required in their current role or for a future career.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are a powerful combination of practical training and part-time study that can lead to a nationally recognised qualification.
Apprenticeships are available in a huge variety of subjects at all educational levels, from GCSE through to Master’s degree equivalents. Whether you're interested in generalist business and management or developing specialist skills, there may be an apprenticeship to help you grow in your current role.
As a member of staff at Sussex, you could undertake an apprenticeship with the support of your department or division and line manager, at no cost to you or your department. The process may begin at any time. However, your appraisal is the perfect opportunity to discuss how an apprenticeship could help you develop in your current role, or fill a skills gap within your department.
Each month we will be shining a light on a new apprentice. Find out about Julie Bailey’s apprenticeship journey here
