On 6 April, the University of Sussex and Zhejiang Gongshang University (ZJSU) co-hosted Sussex’s One World Week and celebrated Sussex’s 60 years anniversary with students at the Sussex AI Institute ZJSU in China.
Amber Lou, Partnerships Development Manager at Department of Global Engagement, Ying Tao, Director of International Office, ZJSU, Professor Wei Guiyi, Dean of the Joint AI Institute and other colleagues from our partner University and around 70 students at the Joint AI Institute attended the fantastic event. Amber Lou gave a speech, introducing the tradition of One World Week at the University of Sussex as a celebration of the diversity of cultures in the community.
The event kicked off with a series of celebration activities for Sussex’s 60 years anniversary. A few students presented their hand-made birthday posters for Sussex. A talented student wrote the university motto of Sussex and ZJSU in admirable Chinese calligraphy, paying his respect to both universities’ dedication to education.
As part of the celebration, the students from the Joint AI Institute paid tribute to Sussex in a unique way: each five of them formed up a team to assemble one piece of a large Sussex logo made of fluorescent tubes.
One World Week happens at Sussex in March every year, promoting the aims of One World Sussex through a range of fun events. Through One World Sussex, we want to unify students and staff, and promote our shared identity as a global community.
This event marked the first One World Week taking place at our Joint AI Institute in China. We are very much delighted to share Sussex’s values with our TNE partner and cultivate a Sussex community through the event at the Joint AI Institute. We are dedicated to ensuring that our Joint AI Institute will open experiences and opportunities these students would not have without the joint degree programmes.
We are pleased to see our partner also looks forward to working together to run the One World Week as an annual event.
