English Graduate, Sam Le Butt, is marking the publication of her first short story collection with an online book launch.
Sam graduated from Sussex in 2016 with a first in English. Her debut short story collection Curious Women and Other Creatures has recently been published and is available from Radical Bookshop, with the launch happening on Zoom this Sunday (20 March), 4-5pm.
The launch event will feature live readings, Q&A and a lively discussion with the author. You can book for the event via Eventbrite.
In her first short story collection, Sam takes us on a series of journeys, each messier than the last, to meet her cast of Curious Women and Other Creatures. It is less a prodding-of, and more a splitting-and-dancing-in-the-entrails-of, the idea of ‘woman as monstrous’ — an idea that persistently haunted our screens, our politics, and our minds; an idea that variously brands women’s bodies and minds as wild, slippery, dangerous, and (if we’re lucky) miraculous.
Following her graduation from Sussex, Sam went on to study for a Master’s in Creative Writing from The University of Edinburgh. She worked as the Head of Nonfiction for The Selkie Publications CIC before stepping into the role of Chief Editor in 2019. Her short fiction can be found in the anthology From Arthur’s Seat 3, at Cephalo Press and in the forthcoming issue of Roten. She is working on her first novel, set in a darkly comic environmental dystopia.
