Dear students,
In this week’s update, you will find information about:
- face coverings on campus
- report and support tool
- Covid-19 vaccination cash prize draw
- Global GenZ survey
- Personal and digital security awareness for students
- entrepreneurial spirit
Face coverings on campus
Thank you to everyone who has been wearing face coverings (such as a mask), as they can significantly reduce the spread of coronavirus, including reducing transmission by people who have Covid-19 but don’t realise it.
That’s why we expect face coverings to be worn in all teaching spaces and other crowded and enclosed places on campus.
We also encourage you to wear them on buses and trains to protect the most vulnerable in the community.
Report and support tool
The health and wellbeing of all students is our top priority. As you might have read in Jayne Aldridge, the Director for the Student Experience’s email earlier this week, you can use the Report and Support tool to let us know if you or someone else has experienced behaviours such as bullying, harassment, a hate incident, sexual violence, domestic abuse or discrimination.
The tool can be accessed online at the Report and Support webpage and on the Sussex Mobile app.
Please note we will act on every report that is made.
Covid-19 Vaccination cash prize draw
At the end of this month, we'll announce the winners of our ten £5,000 cash prizes. You don't need to register to take part, but you'll need to be fully vaccinated or medically exempt to be eligible. See all the details on the Student Hub.
If you haven't had your free Covid-19 vaccine yet or you need your second dose, you can visit one of the walk-in clinics in town.
We strongly encourage all our students, unless you're unable due to medical reasons, to take part in the vaccination programme against Covid-19.
Global GenZ survey
We're taking part in a global study to learn more about Gen Z (those born 1995-2010) - what you think and what you believe about a variety of topics… from money to politics to technology to learning.
Help us shape the student experience offer to meet your needs by completing this survey. It takes around 15 minutes.
For more information about this study, go to www.thegenzhub.com
The survey is due to close on 3 December 2021.
Personal and digital security awareness for students
We know that adapting to a new environment can be difficult, so we’ve organised a workshop covering topics relating to personal and digital safety and managing difficult situations effectively.
Book your place for one of the three sessions (16, 22 or 23 November).
This workshop was previously called “living and studying safely in Brighton and Hove”.
Entrepreneurial spirit
Congratulations to alumni Ethan Martin and Harry Soar, whose table ordering app, Round, is now worth £33 million. In 2019, they trialled the app at Sussex, which allowed them to be ready when demand increased due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Does Ethan and Harry’s success make you curious about entrepreneurship, or do you have an idea that could become a huge success too? If you do, you’ll want to attend the Careers and Entrepreneurship team’s Zoom drop-in session next week, where you can get answers to all your questions - check our website for more careers support.
With best wishes,
Kelly
