Fidelio is an opera by the German composer Beethoven, written in 1805.
“When her husband Florestan is unjustly imprisoned and sentenced to death, Leonore must risk it all to rescue him. Fidelio celebrates the power of love, courage and fidelity in music of heart-soaring beauty.”
Glyndebourne is currently premiering a brand new production of this work. This production uses cutting edge live digital projection to reveal the inner worlds of the main characters, Leonore and Florestan. Peter Cant, the assistant director, will talk about the source material that inspired the new production, the process of conceiving and developing an opera during covid, and the projection techniques pioneered to match the very special staging of this work.
