Professor Ivor Gaber's work advising bodies looking at the safety of journalists

Professor Ivor Gaber has been appointed both as an expert advisor to the UK Government's newly established National Committee for the Safety of Journalists and also to serve as an expert consultant to the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, the government-funded body which provides electoral assistance worldwide. He will be specialising is monitoring media election coverage.
He also recently represented the UK at the biennial meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (UNESCO's main freedom of expression body) and played a major role in resisting efforts to dilute the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists, which Ivor initiated on behalf of the UK in 2012.
