Terrence Hill, a Moulsecoomb resident who worked tirelessly with the universities of Sussex and Brighton to help students settle into their new communities, has died at the age of 69.

Terrence regularly spoke to Sussex students and was involved in many University-organised information events, including the Renting in the City workshops and the Community Housing fairs. He regularly helped at the University’s street cleans in the local area.

Rebecca Nash, Housing Services Manager, said: “Terrence was incredibly passionate about working in partnership with the University. He loved working with the Community Ambassadors, delivering local news leaflets and meeting residents.

“He always invited us to join him on local walk about in the Moulsecoomb area, to meet residents and continually address ways to improve the area they lived in.

“Terrence will be deeply missed, and our condolences go out to his family and friends.”

Terrence was a proud resident of Moulsecoomb and he was Secretary for the Local Action Team (LAT). The LAT meets regularly to discuss improvements to the local area and representatives from the University of Sussex attend the meetings.

The Chair of Moulsecoomb LAT commented: “Terry was a firm believer in helping students to live in harmony with residents. He was so passionate about the Student Community Ambassadors Scheme and went out on several occasions to see their work.  

“I could sing the praises of Terry all day long, from his pride in keeping Bates Estate clean, approachable, and part of the main community, to his love of Moulsecoomb LAT and the projects that he got involved with.

“Terry Hill, my colleague and my friend, forever remembered as a doer not a talker.”

Terrence previously worked at the University of Brighton as Technical Manager for the School of Art. He was well known for his role in coordinating many of the art graduate shows. He was also a loyal Brighton and Hove Albion supporter.

He passed away on 16 July 2020 aged 69 years.
