Swine flu - 12 June update
By:
Last updated: Friday, 12 June 2009
The World Health Organisation declared on 11 June that the handling of the disease worldwide had entered Phase 6 - reflecting the geographic spread and the speed of spread. This does not relate to any change in the severity of the influenza itself. There has been no sudden increase in numbers of cases in the UK - unlike in countries like Australia and Peru in the southern hemisphere which are entering their winter season.
The Health Protection Agency is repeating its advise that organisations should remain vigilant, but that they do not need to change their normal running at this stage. Should circumstances change in ways specifically affecting the University, we would alert our staff and students and take appropriate actions.
University is dealing with the risks of swine flu in accordance with advice provided by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Up-to-date advice and information, drawing on HPA and other official advice, is available on a dedicated set of Sussex web pages

Students and staff are advised to read the Department of Health's leaflet which is being sent to all households in the UK. A downloadable pdf is available on the University's swine flu pages.
