Following five days of industrial action this week, three more days of industrial action are scheduled for next week from Monday 2 – Wednesday 4 December.

The University of Sussex is one of 60 universities in the UK where members of the University and College Union voted for strike action over one or both of two disputes - on pay and related issues and pensions.  

The University has shared information with staff and students with guidance on both the running of the University during industrial action and the measures put in place to mitigate the impact on students' education following the strike dates.  Please do familiarise yourself with this guidance if you have any immediate queries.  

Pro-Vice Chancellor of Education and Students, Kelly Coate said: “Of course this has been a difficult week for the University and our hope remains that a resolution can be found in national talks so that our staff can get back to teaching their students, continue their research or provide the essential services that we all benefit from.  I’m sure these sentiments are shared by everyone at Sussex.

“Our focus next week will continue to be on doing all we can to minimise the impact on our students.”

Whilst the campus has been open as usual, and services such as the cafes and library running, Professional Services staff working at Sussex House have been working in alternative locations due to a group of students who had taken up residence outside the building.

UCU have a mandate for action short of a strike (ASOS) until the end of April 2020.
