The University of Sussex has been named among the top 25 most international universities in the world in a new sector ranking.
The University was named joint 22nd globally in the latest analysis of data by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings team and placed among the top 10 highest ranked international universities in the UK.
The most international rankings were compiled using the international student score, international staff score, international co-authorship score and international reputation metrics collected for the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019.
The University of Sussex has staff and students from more than 140 countries and has international partnerships with more than 160 universities.
Adam Tickell, University of Sussex Vice-Chancellor, said: “Here at the University of Sussex, we are international. From our founding in the 1960s, we have always had a global vision and our staff, students and alumni make extraordinary contributions on a worldwide scale - so it’s fantastic to be recognised for our international outlook.
“The very ethos of Sussex is about helping to make a better world - our researchers continue to find bold new ways to understand and solve global issues, as we look to provide our students with opportunities to leave our institution as citizens of the world.”
The Times Higher Education (THE) team said high-ranking institutions in the analysis all have a high proportion of international students and staff, collaborate on research with scholars from across the world and have a strong global reputation to match.
Research suggests that diverse communities of students improve the teaching and learning experience while opportunities for students to spend time abroad better prepare them to become global citizens, THE authors said.
THE World University Rankings are the only global performance tables that judge research-intensive universities across all core missions of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook using 13 performance indicators.
