Sussexsport and the School of Global Studies are holding a Fairtrade Campus Bake Off, to mark the launch of Fairtrade Fortnight.
The two-week national campaign, which aims to raise the profile of the farmers and workers who grow our food, is organised by the Fairtrade Foundation and starts on Monday 26 February.
This year, we want our staff and students to get involved by baking cakes using as many Fairtrade-produced ingredients as possible.
The cakes will then be entered into our Campus Bake Off event on Monday 26 February, with staff and students able to sample and rate the different cakes between 10am-2pm at our Fairtrade stand outside Falmer House.
Our campus Co-op will be generously supporting the event by providing free tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas and more cake - all Fairtrade, of course - on the day. The Co-op has been supporting the development of Fairtrade since the mark was launched over 20 years ago, in 1994. And there will be will more Fairtrade goodies for the winning baker, courtesy of the campus Co-op, too.
Bake a cake for the event:
- Bake a cake or dessert, making sure to use as many Fairtrade ingredients as possible. These might include sugar, chocolate, bananas, coffee or more: there are lots of recipe ideas online!
- Bring your cake to the Sport Centre reception (opposite the ACCA) between 8-10am on Monday 26 February so that Sussexsport and Global Studies can take it to their Fairtrade stand outside Falmer House
- Leave your contact details with your cake, so that we can contact you if your bake is the top-rated on campus!
- The campus baker who receives the highest rating will receive a hamper of Fairtrade goodies, kindly donated by the Co-op
Get involved on the day
If you'd prefer to stay out of the kitchen, you can get involved on the day by visiting our Fairtrade stand outside Falmer House between 10am-2pm, sampling some of the free cakes, drinks and other foods on offer - and letting us know who should be crowned campus baker of 2018!
You can also donate any Fairtrade products, including shop-bought cakes, to our stand.
And make sure to share with us during the day by tweeting Sussexsport using the #FairtradeFortnight and #ComeOnIn hashtags.
