The University of Sussex has been ranked among the world's top 50 universities for Social Sciences and Business & Economics in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2018 at positions 39 and 50 respectively. 

For the first time Law has also featured in the influential rankings, at position 53.

Sussex is now ranked 39^th in the THE 2018 global subject ranking for Social Sciences, climbing 15 places from 54^th in last year’s ranking.

Business & Economics has also achieved an impressive rise from 69^th last year to position 50 in the 2018 rankings.

Vice-Chancellor, Adam Tickell, praised those involved: “Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to this success story for Sussex. The rises we’ve seen in certain areas are impressive and I know how much hard work and determination would have been required to enable us to make such significant leaps in the rankings for these subject areas.”

Professor Steven McGuire, Head of the School of Business, Management and Economics, commented: "Our new position in this ranking reflects the continued hard work of our School community and builds on our existing reputation for excellent rates of graduate employment and our strong international outlook.

 “Our leading research is also a key factor in this success. The School addresses problems of major social and economic importance - environmental sustainability, economic inequality and the role of the state in promoting economic growth, for example - and these attract major funding and have high impact.

"We will continue to listen to our students in the coming year and beyond to identify areas for further improvement.

"This is a fantastic achievement, and one of which the School and wider University can feel immensely proud."

The subject ranking follows a recent rise for the University as a whole, which is now positioned at 147th worldwide.
