Earlier this week (24 November) second-year Law students Elsie Powers and Kufre Medo led Sussex to victory in the Annual City Mooting Challenge for the seventh consecutive year.
The competition, sponsored by Quality Solicitors Howlett Clarke, is held annually between the University of Sussex and University of Brighton. This was the ninth year of the competition with Sussex having taken home the winner’s shield eight times to date.
This year’s competition was extremely close, making the judge’s decision one of the most difficult in the history of the competition.
Craig Lind, Senior Lecturer in Law, said: "Because of Sussex's winning streak, the Annual City Mooting Challenge is now a very stressful competition for Sussex students, not least because Brighton are trying to wrest the Sussex crown from us. Elsie and Kufre did especially well to hold their nerve in the face of stiff competition and a rigorous panel of judges.”
Mooting competitions are an excellent way for students to gain practical experience during their law studies. In order to qualify for the prestigious competition students must win the Junior Moot in their first year at Sussex. They are then able to compete in the City Mooting Challenge and organise the next year’s Junior Moot.
