Thank you to BMEc colleagues who supported and inputted into the Business and Economics Teachers’ Conference on 30 June. The event was attended by Business Studies and Economics teachers from many local schools and colleges as well as teachers in London, Surrey and Kent.
The conference - opened by Hans Van Der Heijden - aimed to equip delegates with the knowledge and resources to support and enhance their classroom teaching:
- The research sessions gave delegates the opportunity to update their knowledge by learning from some of Sussex’s leading researchers. Peter Holmes gave a truly up-to-the-minute assessment of the Eurozone crisis as part of his talk on fiscal austerity, and Robert Livingston gave an insight into cutting edge research on leadership and diversity in the 21st century workplace.
- The CPD sessions provided resources to enhance classroom teaching. Pedro Rosa Dias led a lively discussion on Thomas Piketty’s Capital. Mark Fisher delivered an interactive session on using contemporary media triggers for operational and strategic decision-making.
- Delegates also heard from the BMEc Placements and Business Engagement team, Study Abroad team, current BMEc students and the Head of Admissions.
Student Recruitment and Marketing staff will undertake a detailed review of comments and suggestions highlighted in the internal and external feedback. An approach to next year’s conference with an outline timetable will be brought to the BMEc Marketing Group meeting in the early autumn.
