The following first appeared in the In Memoriam webpages of the University's Development and Alumni Office, and is re-published here by kind permission. With some changes of wording it also appeared in Falmer, the alumni magazine of the University of Sussex, 46 (Summer 2007), p. 19.
It is with great sadness that Falmer reports the death of Robin Street on 11 May at the age of 64. He died in France, where he had moved after his retirement.
Robin spent most of his professional career at Sussex, first as Front of House Manager of the Gardner Arts Centre, then in the Business Development department, and more recently as Head of the Alumni and Development Office, which he set up from scratch in 1991.
Robin was instrumental in the development of a successful alumni relations programme for the University. His vision of an expanded Development and Alumni Relations team, which he advocated and worked towards for many years, came to fruition just after his retirement in 2003. It is thanks to Robin's commitment to the University, forward-looking agenda and belief in the work he did that the Development and Alumni Relations Office exists in the format it does today, and we all owe him a great deal of gratitude for his vision and hard work.
Many alumni and friends will remember Robin for his warm and affable character, great sense of humour and the kind and wonderful person he was.
