Cycling in the winter can be rewarding, but it is important to consider your safety in colder temperatures.
The Council and Police will be at the below locations from 5-6:30 to help support you ensuring you are safe on your bike.
- Thursday 31 October: the highway or work.spin.span on what three words
- Friday 1 November: aquarium roundabout or pills.tools.ground on what three words
Here are some tips:
Prepare your bike
Before cycling, check your brakes, tires and lights to make sure they are fully working. You might wish to invest in specialised winter tires with more grip.
Wear the right clothes
Wear layers so that you can remove a layer if you overheat. You should also ensure you wear bright colours and have reflective elements on your clothing.
Adapt your riding style
Ride with more caution taking additional care/ time to spot hazards.
Stay visible and communicate
Signal clearly with plenty of time. Take additional care for drivers to spot you, visibility can be worse in winter.
Plan your route
Always check the weather and plan a route that is well maintained.
