Multi-award winning journalist and Sussex alumnus, Clive Myrie
We recently announced that for the first time this year, Sussex is taking part in the award-winning shared-reading scheme – the Big Read!
The Big Read aims to foster a strong sense of belonging through shared-reading among students and staff, providing a common talking point for the whole Sussex community.
The selected title for 2024 is ‘Everything is Everything’, written by multi-award winning journalist and Sussex alumnus, Clive Myrie.
Copies of the book are being sent to prospective students, so if you are joining us in September you may have already received it in the post, or you might expect it soon! Copies are also freely available to current students and staff and can be found at the Library Service Desk.
The Big Read Book Club seminars
We are delighted to invite you to our Big Read Book Club - a series of free online hour-long seminars which draw on themes from our shared-read, running online for five weeks from the middle of August to late September.
Seminar 1: What university did for me, Wednesday 21 August, 1pm
For our first Big Read Book Club seminar we look at the experience of attending university, and how it changed our speakers – and how they then found working on the other side of the fence as in one case an educator, and the other a university administrator.
We will also reflect on what our Big Read author Clive Myrie had to say about his first weeks at the University of Sussex, based on the letter he wrote to be mailed out with the book.
Speakers:
- Rt Rev'd Dr Martin Gainsborough, Bishop of Kingston
- Louisa Green, Executive Director, Student Services, University of Kingston
- Charles Hewitt, CEO of Pen and Sword Publishers
Whether you’re a current student, a new student joining us in September, or a Sussex staff member, we encourage you to join us for our first Book Club event and be a part our Big Read community!
