Three more innovative projects have been awarded up to £5,000 through the latest round of awards from the Education and Innovation Fund.  

Launched in October 2022, the fund is part of our Learn to Transform strategy. The initiative aims to drive positive changes in how we deliver our teaching and learning experience by stimulating student and staff co-creation and rewarding innovation and teaching excellence.    

Meet the winners  

Project lead: Emily Danvers 

Project title: How Students Learn at Home 

“I’m really happy to receive funding for this project and excited about what we can learn about supporting students. My project looks at how 'home' in the post-pandemic university is an increasingly crucial and little understood site for learning. Through interviews and a creative workshop, I will explore how Sussex students spend time learning at home, what they need to do this successfully and how we, as a university, can better support inclusive learning off-campus” 

Project lead: David Smalley 

Project title: Feedback with the power to feed forward 

“We were really excited to hear that our application was successful. This funding allows us to explore student perspectives on our new approach to feedback and monitor its impact on academic engagement/performance. We hope to demonstrate that the integration of reflective practice into the feedback process, and the application of technology to connect feedback on an individual assessment with performance on the course more broadly, are crucial to promoting a feed-forward model of assessment.” 

Project title: Victoria Walden 

Project title: Co-Creating a Digital Pedagogies Toolkit 

“The project will bring students and staff together to identify the most urgent themes related to digital pedagogies, explore existing literature and practice, and present recommendations. The project aims to challenge the idea that digital technologies are simply neutral ‘tools’ we should learn to adapt into our teaching, rather it hopes to encourage critical engagement with digital media in Higher Education contexts drawing on discourses about accessibility, sustainability, critical pedagogies, and data and media literacies.”
