You can read Kelly Coate's message to all taught students below:
Dear students,
Did you know Sussex has produced Nobel prize-winning research, developed radical theories, and created important innovations? Our research findings have provided benefits for the public sector, businesses, charities and health and cultural organisations.
Why not find out about the research carried out by your lecturers and their research colleagues and discover how you can take part in undergraduate research. Your own research work could contribute to creating new knowledge that could make real changes in the world.
Now please read on for essential student information:
- Our next Vice-Chancellor
- Report and support tool
- Meningitis, Mumps, Measles and Rubella vaccinations
- Happy Lunar New Year!
- Undergraduate first years, you could get a £10 Amazon voucher for your views
- Nominate yourself in the Sussex SU Spring Elections
- Congratulations!
Our next Vice-Chancellor
Last Friday, we announced the appointment of Professor Sasha Roseneil as our next Vice-Chancellor. Professor Roseneil will join us in August and we very much look forward to welcoming her to Sussex.
Report and support tool
University Report and Support tool: if you or someone else has experienced behaviours such as bullying, harassment, a hate incident, sexual violence, domestic abuse or discrimination, you can let us know using this Report and Support tool. The tool can be accessed online via the Report and Support Tool webpage.
Meningitis, Mumps, Measles and Rubella vaccinations
We encourage all students to get vaccinations for mumps, measles and rubella (MMR) and meningitis ACWY, if they haven’t already had them.
The National Health Service (NHS) provides free healthcare for UK residents and some, but not all, overseas visitors. Check the Student Hub for information on how to register with a doctor and what free healthcare you're entitled to.
Happy Lunar New Year!
Happy New Year to all our Southeast Asian students, staff, family and friends! To celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Tiger earlier this week, we've launched a brand new microsite for Chinese audiences and a festive video with messages from our senior leadership, the International Office and academic schools.
Undergraduate first years, you could get a £10 Amazon voucher for your views
As a University, we're keen to increase the number and range of international experiences for our students on campus. We're already increasing these opportunities through the work of Careers and Entrepreneurship and the Global Engagement team, but we'd like your opinion on our next steps.
The Global Engagement team is running several focus groups with first-year undergraduates for the next two weeks to get your views on the benefits and barriers to international experiences and the development of a programme to increase internationalisation opportunities and activities on campus.
If you’re a first-year student, you will receive an email invitation to participate shortly. Book a date and get a £10 Amazon voucher (places are limited so be quick!).

Nominate yourself in the Sussex SU Spring Elections
Nominations are now open for the Students’ Unions Spring Elections. These elections choose the Students’ Union Executive Officer team, a group of students who help shape the direction of the Union and also represent the Student body at the University. Being an Executive Officer for the Students’ Union provides great opportunities to contribute to the student experience at Sussex and enhances your employability opportunities.
Find out about the elections, the roles available, key dates and how to nominate yourself now. Contact natalie.s@sussexstudent.com if you have any questions.
Nominations close on 4 March.
Congratulations!
Finally, I'd like to congratulate second-year Product Design students Katya Jeppesen-Frank, Charlie Stanbury and Matthieu Barrois for winning the Library challenge to design a new piece of furniture for their family room.
With best wishes,
Kelly
