Bonfire night
While there are no official public fireworks for Bonfire Night in Brighton and Hove, there are still many fun events in town this weekend.
Lewes Bonfire night will be held today (Friday 5 November), and it is only possible to attend with a pre-booked ticket – you should not travel to Lewes unless you have a ticket to attend.
All students should check local travel restrictions as all bus and train services between Brighton and Lewes will be affected from the afternoon of 5 November.
Also, please remember that for safety reasons, it’s not permitted to set off fireworks or light fires on campus.
COP26 and Festival of Social Sciences
The 26th UN Climate Change Conference 2021 started last Sunday in Glasgow. Find out how we're contributing to COP26 with research and engagement activities.
We're also hosting several online and in-person events on environmental issues at the ESRC Festival of Social Science, which takes place this month across the country.
Join for free and explore topics relating to social science – from health and wellbeing to crime, equality, education and identity.
January 21/22 exam timetable
The January 21/22 Examinations Timetable is now available to view on Sussex Direct.
Check your study timetables for all assessment dates and times, and contact SPA-Assessmnet@sussex.ac.uk by Friday, if there are any scheduling errors.
Digital Discovery week
The Library has put together a programme of online and in-person workshops and seminars to celebrate digital innovation. Highlights include ‘What memes are made of’ and Irene Fubara-Manuel’s ‘Dreams of Disguise’ session, using video games and animation to address larger issues around race, migration and technology.
The Digital Discovery Week starts on Monday, and spaces are limited. Sign up now.
JRA poster competition winners
Congratulations to all 2021 Junior Research Associates (JRA) for the outstanding research they carried out during the summer. And a special mention to Phoebe Valentine from MPS who won the first prize at the JRA poster competition for her research poster “How to Measure a Coffee Splat."
Film for COP26 winners
Finally, congratulations to Lewis Alford, Marina Orruela Monteoliva, and Matthew Evans for winning first, second and third place at the Film for COP26 competition. Their videos were the favourite of the audience attending the award ceremony at the Conference Centre on Monday evening.
With best wishes,
Kelly
