Welcome Week
We're looking forward to welcoming you to campus. Explore our Get Settled programme ; choose and book the activities you would like to attend from a range we’ve prepared for you.
Make sure you check your personalised timetable on Sussex Direct to find out about the sessions tailored to your course by your School.
We also have a handy Welcome Week Guide where you can find practical information about starting at Sussex.
And our Get Ready programme is still available to help you make the most of your time at University.
Covid-19 vaccines
We strongly encourage all our students to get vaccinated to protect our campus community and those in the city.
To make vaccinations easier, we're hosting a Mobile Vaccination Unit from Monday 20 to Wednesday 22 September, which will be stationed outside Pevensey 1 opposite the Meeting House (see map) between 10:30 am and 2:30pm.
You'll be able to receive your first dose of the vaccine, or – if you have had the first dose at least eight weeks earlier – a second dose. If you're an international student, you'll be able to receive a compatible second dose if you have had your first dose at home.
The Mobile Vaccination Unit will be able to deliver 300 vaccinations per day. Whilst there might be some availability for walk-up slots, to secure a slot (and ensure that you do not have to stand for long periods in a queue), we recommend you book an appointment.
If you miss the opportunity to get vaccinated on campus, walk in vaccinations are taking place every day at Brighton’s main vaccination centre in Churchill Square:
08.30-19.00 – (former old Topshop) Next to the entrance to Zara, Churchill Square, Brighton, BN1 2RG.
For all adults, 1st and 2nd doses (2nd dose after 8 weeks) (Pfizer)
Details of other walk-in vaccination sessions in Brighton can be found on the Sussex health and Care Partnership website.
Face coverings
Face coverings can significantly reduce the spread of coronavirus, including reducing transmission by people who have Covid-19 but don’t realise it.
You’re expected to wear a face covering (such as a mask or visor) in crowded and enclosed spaces on campus including in all teaching spaces, and follow the instructions indicated by signage.
Our advice is based on UK government guidance on face coverings, as well as University considerations and we’re taking your views into account at all stages.
Sussex Career and Entrepreneurship
Looking for a part-time job or an internship? Open to starting a creative project, social enterprise or business? Starting to think about graduate job applications? Wherever you’re at, get engaged with opportunities to build your skills, experience and connections at Sussex this year.
On the Sussex Careers and Entrepreneurship website, you can browse vacancies, choose from the Career Lab menu, check out the Sussex Entrepreneurship Programme or use our digital CV checker.
Freshers' Fair
The Students’ Union plays a key role in the delivery of the student experience at Sussex. One of the ways they do this is to arrange events for new and returning students during Welcome Week. This year they have organised an incredible 130 events. You can find out more on the Students’ Union Sussex Freshers’ activities page.
Be sure to visit the Freshers' Fair at Falmer House on campus on Monday 20 Sept - your chance to explore societies, sports clubs and everything else the Students' Union offers, along with freebies and food.
University of the Year for Student Retention
Finally, we’re extremely proud that Sussex has been named ‘University of the Year for Student Retention’ by the Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022.
With best wishes,
Kelly
