Latest information and guidance for staff - 23 July

Last updated: Friday, 23 July 2021
In line with the easing of Government restrictions this week, we are expecting and recommending a gradual return to campus from August – before a fuller return for the start of the academic year.
Returning to campus information
Our return to campus webpages provide vaccination guidance for staff, and HR tools to prepare individuals and managers for working on site.
A reminder, you can also read about our Remote Working Framework which comes into effect at start of the new academic year in September, and which builds on the work/life balance principles of Flexible Sussex.
Seeking your views
Along with the easing of many restrictions, the Government has confirmed that the requirement by law to wear face coverings has been removed. However, there is an expectation and recommendation that they are worn in crowded spaces, such as on public transport.
Earlier this week, all staff were sent a questionnaire asking them to share their thoughts on what measures will work well for our community – including the wearing of face coverings in different spaces on campus.
Please complete this questionnaire – which closes at 5pm today, 23 July – as we are very keen to gather the feedback from as many people as possible, before we start welcoming more staff back onto campus in August.
Extremely vulnerable staff
Please note that the measures we had in place for extremely vulnerable staff will still be in place, which include: allowing these staff to come on to campus at flexible times, so as to avoid busy public transport times; providing them with the ability to socially distance when in the office space; asking other members of staff and students to be respectful of those around them and agreeing practical local measures.
Health and safety
The health and safety of our staff and students remains our top priority and we will continue to keep you updated on all our plans and measures. Please read our latest advice and guidance, including how to get your free pack of seven rapid LFD tests.
Information for teaching staff
We’ve updated our information for teaching staff with guidance regarding the delivery of teaching.
We are continuing with our plans to provide our students with a blended experience, but the predominant mode of teaching will return to being in-person.
Welcoming you back to campus
You can meet up with colleagues at one of our coffee and cake events at the ACCA café over the next few weeks – and take a look around campus.
It will give you the opportunity to reconnect with each other, and with the campus and its surroundings.
The events will run until 1 September and you can now book an 11am or 2pm slot.
We’d suggest you try to arrange to attend the same event as your teammates if possible, so you can reconnect face-to-face.
If you would like to book a large group for one of these events, you can email events@sussex.ac.uk to arrange.
Plus, if you’re looking for ideas of what to do to reconnect with campus and your teams, here are some suggestions of activities and places to visit.
