Sussexsport has teamed up with Run Things to offer students and staff at south east universities the opportunity to stay active and keep the BUCS spirit going with a competitive challenge throughout May.
We know our sports clubs and staff are missing BUCS Wednesdays and competitions during this challenging time. So, to keep us connected and encourage some friendly BUCS competition, we’re asking sports department staff; university sports clubs; coaches; instructors - anyone who contributes towards your BUCS teams - to join our month-long challenge in May.
You’ll sign up as a team, representing your university, and then work as a group to record all your activity throughout the month via the online platform Run Things.
All movement counts, not just running, so you’ll be able to log runs, walks, bike rides and other fitness sessions.
Your activity will be converted into distance and you can manually enter any exercise you do throughout the month if it’s not automatically pulled from Strava (running and walking can be, if you have an account). Every six minutes of exercise from fitness sessions counts as one kilometre distance.
The university team that records the greatest distance by the end of May wins the challenge!
Using the Run Things platform, you’ll be able to see your team total and an event leaderboard throughout the challenge, and there’ll be lots of stats to keep your team motivated and get the competition going!
So far, Sussex, Brighton, Bucks, Portsmouth, Surrey, Herts and Canterbury have signed up. But the more that take part, the more fun it’ll be!
To take part:
If you're a University of Sussex student or staff member, you can join Team Sussex by registering on Run Things, selecting Team Sussex and using the coupon code: B8lNwe5-37439.
If you're from another university and would like to register a team:
- Email Luke Terrill to sign up your university team
- We will need the name of your Team Captain (someone that is happy to be the main contact for the challenge - a member of university staff is advised) and their contact details, plus a team name for your group
- Run Things will do the rest and will contact team captains to let you know how to sign up additional team members and get involved.
So sign up a team and let’s take BUCS competition online throughout May!
