Independent Research Fellows – Come and Join Us!
We are keen to support applications for major fellowships for talented researchers who are keen to establish a longer-term career at the University of Sussex. These awards are expected to last for 5 years and should cover all (or a substantial portion) of the fellow’s salary. We would offer mentorship to develop your bid, an attractive start-up package including additional funding for a PhD studentship, and a transparent tenure-track process. Possible funding schemes include ERC starting grants, UKRI future leaders, Wellcome Early Career Awards, NIHR Advanced Fellowships, and Royal Society Fellowships. We are also keen to host fellowships of shorter durations (e.g. Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships) but these would not be eligible for our start-up package.
Informal enquiries are encouraged throughout the year to the Deputy Head of School, Prof. Jamie Ward. For ERC starting grants, a specific deadline of 15th May 2025 is set to be considered for the October 2025 deadline (please send a CV and a 1-page covering letter with a brief outline of the grant).
