Yes before you can use the general computing facilities at Sussex you will need to register with IT Services and receive your own computing account - your own username, password and Sussex email address.
You will need this in order to login to IT Services general purpose PCs, iMacs and Linux systems as well as to register your own device(s) to connect to the internet via the campus network. You will use this same username and password to login to Study Direct and Sussex Direct and also to access the online electronic resources in the Electronic Library.
All students and staff of the University are eligible to apply for a computing account.
Most new students are pre-registered with computing accounts which you can obtain before you arrive by completing Online University Registration. Information on how to do this will be sent to you in an email and a letter , along with other university registration information.
Staff (and students that were not offered Online University Registration) should come to the IT Service Desk in Shawcross, with their student or staff card. Once your eligibility has been confirmed then your computing account will normally be created and activated within one working day.
You are also strongly advised to attend the induction session about using the computing facilities at Sussex, (use Sussex email, find computer cluster, use printers, etc.). For students arriving in September this will normally be part of your induction programme in Freshers' Week. Induction sessions are also offered throughout the year.
