University of Sussex Kindness UK Symposium - Thursday 10th November
On Thursday 10th November, just ahead of World Kindness Day on 13th November, the University will be holding an interdisciplinary symposium at the Attenborough Centre for Creative Arts, celebrating research that illuminates the nature and development of kindness, and its impact on people and communities.
Following a welcome by Professor Robin Banerjee (School of Psychology) and David Jamilly (Founder of Kindness UK), the symposium will feature a keynote presentation by Dr Markus Paulus from LMU Munich: "The development of sharing behaviour in early childhood".
After tea and coffee, there will be short presentations from the three inaugural winners of the Kindness UK Doctoral Conference Award:
- Naoko Hashimoto from the School of Law, Politics, & Sociology on "Why do countries accept refugees through 'resettlement'? The case of Japan"
- Ingeborg Hasselgren from the School of Media, Film, & Music on "Creating a kinder world: The revolutionary potential of cuteness"
- Jenny Gu from the School of Psychology on "What is compassion and how can we measure it?”
Refreshments will be provided.
This event has been made possible by the support of David Jamilly, who has generously sponsored the conference award scheme for Sussex doctoral researchers and will be present to introduce the symposium.
Tickets for the event are free but are limited, so please book your place now.
