This illustration shows Mary Magdalen embracing the feet of Jesus, whose body is almost invisible at the corner of the image. Christian images in the Victorian Britain were innovative in portraying biblical characters and stories in Middle-Eastern settings, as opposed to the generic settings that had been used previously.
