p. 376  On the wall of the narthex, near the side doors, a large Christ is represented in mosaic …
p. 377 … and the interior was decorated with mosaics with a gold background. In the centre dome one could admire Christ, ‘it looks like he monitors the earth, he mediates the order and government, as the artist has expressed through shapes and colours the care of the ruler of the world’. Christ was surrounded by angels armed with lances, and mounting guard in concentric zones. In the apse could be seen a Virgin orant and in the rest of the church the apostles, the prophets, the patriarchs, the martyrs.
